Wildlife at the edge of the preserves

Paul Douglas Preserve takes up 1,800 acres in the north end of Hoffman Estates, grassland plus wetland restored along Poplar Creek, and the Forest Preserves of Cook County note that beavers are active there. The Arthur L. Janura Preserve runs along the village’s west side. Raccoons, skunks, and opossums travel out of that cover toward the houses at its edges.

The village started in late 1955, when the first residents moved into homes east of Roselle Road between Golf and Higgins on what had been a 160-acre farm. About 72% of today’s homes were built between 1960 and 1989, so many roofs have had several decades for soffits, gable vents, and roof returns to work loose, on single-family houses and townhomes alike.

What we handle

🦇

Bat Removal in Hoffman Estates

Bats slip into aging soffits and gable vents on homes from the 1960s through the 1980s. They are protected in Illinois and IL DNR-regulated, so we exclude them humanely, waiting in summer until the young can fly, then clean up the guano and seal the openings. See our bat remediation service.

🦝

Raccoon Removal in Hoffman Estates

Raccoons working the edges of Paul Douglas and the Janura preserve tend to get into attics through roof returns, soffit corners, and chimney tops. We remove them humanely, then close every gap they found. More on raccoon removal.

🐿️

Squirrels, Skunks and Opossums in Hoffman Estates

Squirrels chew through aging soffits into attics and wall voids, and skunks and opossums dig in under the decks, porches, sheds, and stoops of single-family homes and townhomes. We remove them humanely and repair the openings so the next one cannot follow. See squirrel removal.

🦫

Beaver and Muskrat Along Poplar Creek

Beavers are active at Paul Douglas, according to the Forest Preserves of Cook County, and Poplar Creek runs on through the village. Along the creek, beaver can cut trees and clog culverts, and muskrats tunnel into banks. We are licensed for water trapping. See beaver and muskrat control.

Common questions

How long does it take AquaText to get to Hoffman Estates?+

About half an hour from Hampshire by I-90 or Route 72 (Higgins Road). Emergency and same-day visits are available; call (847) 997-5215.

Can you remove bats from a Hoffman Estates townhome?+

Yes. Bats are protected in Illinois and IL DNR-regulated, so the method is humane exclusion, never extermination, and in summer it waits until the young can fly. In townhomes and single-family houses alike, we then clean up guano and seal the soffit and gable-vent gaps.

What does raccoon removal involve in Hoffman Estates?+

An inspection of the roofline, chimney, and attic to find how they got in, humane removal, and then sealing every opening. If they damaged insulation or left contamination behind, attic cleanup and restoration are part of the same job.

Will Hoffman Estates police remove a wild animal from my yard?+

Generally no. Hoffman Estates police do not trap or pick up wild animals unless the animal is an immediate threat. Otherwise it is treated as a nuisance animal, and the homeowner contacts a licensed trapper. AquaText is IL DNR-licensed and offers a free on-site inspection.
