Bat Removal & Remediation in Kane County, Illinois

Bats are protected by Illinois law — you can’t exterminate them. The only legal solution is professional exclusion. We’ve been doing it correctly across Kane, McHenry & Cook County for 25 years.

The Problem

Why Bats Aren’t Just a Nuisance

A colony in your attic is a health, structural, and legal problem all at once — and it grows every season.

🦠

Histoplasmosis

Bat droppings harbor Histoplasma capsulatum — a fungus that causes serious respiratory illness when spores become airborne. Children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals are most at risk.

🏠

Structural Damage

Guano is acidic, corrodes wood and drywall, and saturates insulation. Long-term colonies cause thousands in damage to attic structures and ceiling materials.

⚖️

Legal Liability

Most Illinois bat species are protected under state and federal law. Killing or improperly removing bats can result in significant fines — and most DIY exterminators are operating illegally.

Identification

Signs You Have a Colony

A single bat inside the living space may mean nothing. Or it may mean a colony has been growing in your attic for years.

🏚️

Inside Your Home

  • Bats seen flying inside the living space at dusk
  • Squeaking, scratching, or rustling from walls or attic
  • Strong ammonia-like odor coming from the attic
  • Small dark droppings near entry points
  • Stains on ceilings below attic spaces
🌙

Outside Your Home

  • Dark greasy staining around small gaps in the exterior
  • Bats visibly emerging from soffits or gable vents at dusk
  • Bats roosting on the exterior of the structure
  • Droppings accumulated on exterior walls or window sills
  • Bats circling around the property repeatedly
Our Process

Legal Exclusion. Permanent Results.

We don’t exterminate — we exclude. Bats leave on their own through one-way devices, then we seal the structure permanently behind them.

01

Inspect

We locate roost sites, identify entry points, and determine the species and colony size. Species identification matters — the legal protocol differs.

02

Exclude

One-way exclusion devices are installed at active entry points. Bats can exit freely but cannot re-enter. Secondary gaps are sealed during this phase.

03

Seal

Once the colony has fully vacated, exclusion devices are removed and all entry points are permanently sealed with professional-grade materials.

04

Remediate

We safely remove accumulated guano with proper PPE, treat the area with enzyme-based disinfectants, and assess any structural damage.

FAQ

Common Questions

Is it legal to kill bats in Illinois?+

No. Most bat species in Illinois are protected under the Illinois Wildlife Code and may also have federal protections. The only legal method of removal is exclusion. We are fully licensed to perform this work.

When can bat exclusion be performed?+

Bat exclusion in Illinois is generally prohibited during maternity season (approximately June 1 – July 31) when young bats are flightless. Exclusion is typically performed in spring (April–May) or late summer through fall (August–October).

Can a single bat mean a colony?+

Not always — a single bat may have gotten lost. However, it warrants a professional inspection to determine whether a colony is present. A colony can go unnoticed for years.

Is bat guano really dangerous?+

Yes. Bat droppings harbor Histoplasma capsulatum, the fungus that causes histoplasmosis — a respiratory illness that can be serious in children, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.

Do bats carry rabies?+

Bats are a known rabies vector in Illinois. If you or a family member has had direct contact with a bat — or if a bat was found in a room where someone was sleeping — contact your local Health Department and your physician immediately.
